The Blessing of Fire

I went out to the hazel wood
because a fire was in my head.”

From the Song of Wandering Aengus
By W. B. Yeats

In Corrogue I feel aglow.

The feeling of aglow is the feeling of fire. I have a fire in my head. This fire in the head is the symbol of the creative imagination. This is the fire that requires no wood. It is the fire of creativity. It is the fire of Eros. Presently this creative fire comes through dreams. This is the language of soul friendship and the language of self-love.

I can delude myself and sometimes do more often than I care to admit. Only my dream life does not delude me. It tells me when I am off track. It tells me when I am not being completely honest with myself. When the dream life is positive I wake up aglow. Often I have faced shadows that have hung around the life situation of 'little me.' I have stood up to the hungry ghosts of the past and sent them on their way or put them in their place.

The language of dreams is not always comfortable. It is not always flattering to the ego. This language is a language beyond time. It supports the journey of the soul rather than the personality alone. In dreams the important aspect is the feeling sense elicited by the dream. Each dream has an emotional content. Some dreams have a sense of after glow. Others have the feeling of dread, guilt or other negative emotional association. It is important to take time and spend time honouring these gifts beyond ego identity. This is part of your story and less apart from the real story.

When you enter the symbolic life of dreams you begin to feel that sleep is not just sleep. Sleep becomes part of the journey into wholeness and the holy. Sleep becomes part of the journey just as much as action in the world is part of the journey. Sleep allows for the transformation of negative energies that impact upon our life situation during the day. To fully embrace the dream life is to build a foundation of our life’s situation upon more solid ground.

We as a culture in the West are afflicted by sleep disorders. We are awake at night and only half awake during the day. The healing power of sleep then merely touches the surface. We tend to drug ourselves to sleep. We learn not to trust this healing time. We learn not to surrender to the images and stories of the night that tell us more than we might care to know about who we are or what we are denying at a soul level.

As a storyteller I love dreams. There are symbols in dreams that are universal but always the dream is personal to the dreamer. The dragons and monsters are personal to you as much as the heroes and heroines and the Gods and Goddesses. Every dream symbol is part of your unique story. When you are allowing of dreams they begin to impact the non-dreaming state. Change can then happen spontaneously. You do not then have to do anything to fix it. Whatever is needed is manifested because the dream has been allowed to be. That which was hidden is brought to light. This does not mean that this process is in anyway feels comfortable.

Working with dreams allows you to work with your creative imagination. Creative imagination will allow you to go where no man or woman has gone before. You become uniquely creative. You become a seer. You learn to look beyond labels and judgements and simply feel the connection to all that is. You stop dreaming the individual and collective illusion of separateneness from love. You stop dreaming that you are not enough.

Each night can be an adventure into wonder or into wrestling with demons. Yet this journey of life is your journey. It is your creation if you will allow it to be creative. You can make it your intention to remember your dreams. You can ask questions and have your dreams answer them. When you awake you give time to assimilate them. This is a second language you are learning. Thus it requires patience. It is a unique language. It is a language beyond ego. It is unique to you although you partake in the collective dream of separateness from love.

Keep a dream journal by your bedside. This is an act of intention. With this intention you will begin to see your real life story as it is rather than how you wish it were. This is why many people do not spend time with dreams. With indigenous people the sharing of dreams is honoured. The local shaman and healer is one who goes into the dreamtime to return with healing solutions to problems within time. They do this for the well being of the individual and the group.

Dreams go beyond words. They go beyond the rational. You can rationalise your dreams but often the image in the dream is so stark that to ignore it one has to lie to oneself. In a recent dream I had the frightening experience of having my money reduced. This to me symbolised a fear that I was in a way worth less. This is not something I normally feel but on deeper reflection there is a shadow remaining that I am becoming more aware of. Often at this point people begin to stop remembering and say they never dream. Research shows that we all dream each night.

This nocturnal activity that we are gifted each night in sleep is a real, even more real, part of our life story than the mask of persona alone. You create your dreams to help you along the journey of soul. To honour dreams is part of being an Anamcara to oneself. You become your own soul friend. You cannot be a soul friend to another without first honouring the soul within.

Dreams can open a world of Yes, a world of glow. But be aware that you will get burned. You will have burned away all that is not you. You will have burned away all that is illusion until you come to the fire that requires no wood. This is the fire of your soul creating in the world of form. You become the dance. You become aglow with creation. This is only who you are. Only in the world of time we each dream the illusion of separateness. Why not dream the real dream. Why not go beyond all dreams and know who you really are. Then you will know that the blessing is already here and you are it.

RECOMMENDED LISTENING

I will start by admitting, I was somewhat dubious about the music on the CD before I bought it, but I needed the relaxation. This CD is a beautiful compilation that can take your mind to more peaceful places. The final track is the crem-dela-crem. I will not ruin the surprise, but you can take word for it.
